MFC IT Services
Internal tools for an IT company
A set of applications built for a managed service provider that was either doing the work by hand or paying for third-party tools. One sign-on across all of them, against MFC's own Microsoft tenant, with access decided by the security groups they already keep.

the brief
MFC IT Services and WBJ Solutions have worked together for more than six years, sharing clients between them, which is long enough to see clearly where a working day goes.
Most of what MFC needed internally was either done by hand or bought in. Bought in gets expensive when a tool has one job and one business using it.
what was built
- A dashboard every engineer opens first: one box that searches a Dell service tag, their own engineer wiki, or the forums they use, without going anywhere else to start. It also shows what is down and who is on annual leave.
- A status page for MFC's own systems and for the third-party services they depend on, read from the providers' own feeds. The dashboard reads from it.
- A knowledge base for clients: searchable articles for the day-to-day, with categories, popular articles and news.
- Signed in, a client sees articles written for their own setup: their VPN, their password reset, their remote access. Managers can be given more again, and see invoices, assets and subscriptions.
- Dispatch, which tells a client their hardware is on its way.
- Onboarding and offboarding notifications, which tell a client when a new starter is ready or a leaver is finished, with a record of what was done.
- PiPS, zero-touch provisioning and management for Raspberry Pis out at client sites.
- An authentication gateway in front of all of it, signing in against MFC's own Microsoft 365 tenant. Who can open which application is decided by the security groups MFC already maintains, not by a user list inside each tool.
outcome
Sign in once and everything is there. A new tool is an addition to something that already exists rather than another subscription, another password and another list of users to keep current.
